The beginner guide is for people who have never grappled, people coming back after years away, and anyone in their first months of training. The posts explain the ideas behind the sport in plain language: why leverage and position beat strength, what a class at Ground Game Theory looks like from the inside, and what progress actually feels like before the first promotion.
Nothing here assumes a background in martial arts. If a word or a position is unfamiliar, that is the point of the article, not a prerequisite for reading it.
A typical first month looks like this: a few Foundations classes to learn the positions and the vocabulary, then mixed-level classes where the rounds get livelier, then open mat once you know enough to choose your own partners. The posts below cover each of those steps, and the questions most people have along the way.
When you are ready to try it, the first day is free for Miami-area residents. Book the Foundations class, wear a rashguard or fitted shirt and shorts without pockets or zippers, and show up. Everything else is covered in these posts.
